How Our ATS Resume Scoring Works
ResumeScanner compares your resume against a specific job description and returns a 0–100 match score in about 30 seconds — free, with no sign-up. Here is exactly how that score is built, and what it can and cannot tell you.
1. Text parsing
We read your resume the way an ATS does: as raw text. Headers, dates, sections, skills, and education are identified. If a structure would confuse common ATS parsers (unusual headings, multi-column artifacts), it shows up in your formatting checks.
2. Semantic keyword extraction
The job description is analyzed for required skills, tools, qualifications, and soft skills. Matching goes beyond exact strings: "led a team" can match "leadership", and conceptual synonyms are recognized the way modern ATS ranking algorithms recognize them. Each missing keyword is graded high, medium, or low importance based on how central it is to the role.
3. The match score
Keyword coverage, skill alignment, and education fit combine into a single 0–100 score:

4. AI suggestions and recruiter simulation
Beyond scoring, the engine generates three targeted suggestions referencing your actual resume content, a pro tip for the fastest score gain, and a hiring-panel style summary — how an HR screener and hiring manager would likely read your profile in the first pass.
Honest limitations
No third-party tool sees inside Workday, Greenhouse, Taleo, or any vendor's actual ranking code — including ours and every competitor's. We model the parsing and keyword-matching behavior these systems share. Treat the score as a strong directional signal for tailoring your resume, not a guarantee of passing any specific system.
